Colourful postcard showing 12 different Royal Mail stamps of different values. The idea of postage being prepaid by the sender was the brain-child of Rowland Hill, and it revolutionised the postal system. From his idea the first stamp, the Penny Black, was released on the 6th May 1840. More than 68 million of them were produced in the first year of their issue.
