Description

Picture postcard featuring a reproduction of a vintage advertisement poster for Cunard Line's RMS Queen Mary.  The illustration was a winning design by young art student C H Calder for a local competition in 1936.

RMS Queen Mary is a retired British ocean liner owned by the Cunard Line.  During service she mainly sailed the North Atlantic ocean.  Her maiden voyage was on the 27th May 1936.  When WW2 broke out she was converted into a troopship and for the duration of the conflict she ferried Allied soldiers.  After the war RMS Queen Mary was refitted for passenger service and she remained in service until 1967 when she was retired.  Her final voyage was on the 31st October 1967 when she sailed to Long Beach, California, USA.  She remains permanently moored there to this day where she is a tourist attraction boasting a museum, hotel and restaurants.
