In 1986 a tunnel was chosen as the way to provide a cross channel link between Britain and France. Construction began in 1988 and finished in 1993, the official opening took place in May 1994. Eurostar services began on 14th November 1994 between Waterloo International Station, Gare du Nord Paris and Brussels-South railway station in Brussels. Present day the Eurostar railway service connects London with Amsterdam, Avignon, Brussels, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Paris and Rotterdam.
