A delightful animal blank card. This barn owl sits proudly amongst a clump of daisies. This particular photograph was taken at Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve in Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Barn owls are the most widely distributed species of owl and one of the most widely distributed species of birds as a whole. Characteristically the face is always heart shaped and for most of the sub-species it is white. The barn owl's call is a long drawn out shriek rather than a hoot. Barn owls are mainly nocturnal but in Britain and some Pacific Islands they will also hunt by day. They have excellent hearing and in this way find most of their food, which consists mainly of small mammals found on the ground. In the 2015 competition to find Britain's national bird, the Barn Owl came 2nd with 12% of the vote, it was only beaten by the Robin which flew off with a massive 34% of the vote.
